JP Soars, the guitarist
and vocalist for the band is a musical melting pot, with
influences form just about all genres of music, including
heavy metal, which is where his professional career as a
musician got it’s start. Most
blues guitarists haven’t played in a handful of metal
bands and aren't influenced by jazz icons like Django Reinhardt
and Wes Montgomery. Which, as much as anything, explains
why South Florida based JP Soars doesn’t sound like
any other area guitar slinger.

Barefoot Jax has evolved from being an
ongoing home studio project to a live original rock band
that is ready to gig. The last ten years have essentially
been driven by song writing and recording thus giving birth
to over ninety inspired songs. BFJ has released four original
rock albums by way of the internet – “Crank,” “Much
Obliged,” “Leaving Tracks,” and “The
Legend of Skinny on the Flip.”

For those of you who have somehow missed MARK
LEACH-aka-"MUGGIE DOO" rippin' the roof off the sucker
for the last thirty plus years, that's understandable. But
for those of us who have been there in the audience watching
Muggie, we see it a little differently. He's spinnin, dancin
and clowning at the helm of his 1940 high-rise HAMMOND ORGAN,
and playing licks that's got our jaws dropped open.

Melinda first decided
she wanted to become a singer at the age of three. She was
watching the band Nsync perform on TV and remembers turning
to her parents saying, “I can do that!”. As a
child, she would always run around everywhere singing and dancing.
She really feels and enjoys the energy and the excitement that
comes with the performances and being able to meet and interact
with her fans.

In the late seventies
and early eighties South Florida had one of the most eclectic
original music scenes in the country. Bands like The Eat, The
Reactions, The Front, The Cichlids, Charlie Pickett & The
Eggs and dozens more were making a new kind of racket in the
land that time forgot. By 1985, it was all over.

When I first got into the music
industry, I had no idea how to promote my music. I went to
a lot of shows and watched a lot of bands. I pretty much made
it a routine weekend deal. I had some buddies I grew up with
who were also into the music scene and we played instruments
every day, usually after school. One of my biggest dreams was
to be able to support myself from the music I created and just
as well travel the world, performing for people every night.
I'm pretty sure my friends had the same dream, but it didn't
seem as if it were true.

In today's entertainment
industry, there is only one way for a cover band or solo
entertainer to get hired: a Video Promotional Package. With
the ubiquity of the internet, it is an absolute must for
getting booked. Because of the accessibility of high quality
audio editing software, the days of audio promo are over
because it is impossible to know how authentic the performance
is. Virtually every potential client will request a video,
so the sooner you get this prepared, the better.

I cannot say enough about
how much more exciting an event is when it is packed with
excited people. Obviously you will use the social media such
as Face Book and Twitter but don't forget that a personal
invitation to a friend or special attendee sometimes means
more if it is in writing. Special invitations can be obtained
at little cost and sent to people in the music industry who
have a lot of clout such as the local DJs, A&R, bloggers,
radio stations, other radio personalities, reporters for
the music sections of the local press.

Whether you're planning
a national, international, or regional tour the goals are
the same: earn income while promoting yourself in a familiar
or new territory. Reaching out to fans and connecting personally
at your concerts are the keys to gaining a dedicated fan
base and generating buzz around your band. Admittedly, while
overall comfort plays a key role in combatting tour fatigue
and maintaining performance levels, sometimes comfort isn't
an option. If tour expenses are outweighing guarantees, try
implementing some of these cost-cutting travel techniques
tailored for the DIY, self-booking independent artist.

With an abundance of
tribute bands on the market you can quite easily get overwhelmed
with the choice that is available to you and you may ask
yourself, "What are the best tribute bands to book?" Well,
it's all about taste, not just yours but your guests. What
one person likes another may hate but you can't please everybody,
or can you?
