Tell Me Secrets
Growing up and making a big influence were definitely
the Beatles first and foremost. They were Jacob's first real love
and he was raised on their music. They shaped, along with many
others, what kind of musician he has become today. And all the
others that have influenced him have had a big Beatles influence
on them as well, which comes across in their music. He has
always written songs and there was a piano in the house so it wasn’t
too hard to put the two together. When he got to high school he
played around in bands, and then when just 18 got a nice little
publishing deal.
Jacob
Jeffries, hailed “a
superb singer-songwriter-keyboardist” by the OC Register,
may just be the best-kept musical secret in south Florida. With
Jacob on lead vocals and keys, the talented quartet create
a unique musical blend of piano-driven rock and roll described
by Miami Herald/Metromix as “bursting with hook-filled
melodies and dramatic, instantly likable vocals,” that
grab at your soul and refuse to let go which, paired with
the young songwriter’s surprisingly insightful lyrics
keep audiences out of their seats and singing along show
after show.
Since 2006 the young, independent foursome has been getting
the good word out ceaselessly writing, recording and hitting
the road with four U.S. tours of the northeast, southeast and
midwest, and regularly playing the NYC, Atlanta and South Florida
music scene. Some of the band’s stops on the road include
appearances at the NAMM Conference for Baldwin Pianos in Anaheim, CA, BMI’s
Leaf Lounge during the prestigious Sundance Film Festival in Park City, UT, and
at SXSW for BMI’s Acoustic Brunch and the Red Gorilla
Festival in Austin, TX. During these extensive tours the Jacob
Jeffries Band has played alongside a range of established artists
such as The Click Five, Vertical Horizon, Benjy Davis Project,
Trevor Hall, Anthony Hamilton, Tim Reynolds, Sons of Bill,
Priscilla Ahn, and Jennifer Knapp, Sugar Ray, Gin Blossoms
and Dashboard Confessional. |

Declared “(one)
of Miami’s best and most buzzed-about
independent artists, singer songwriters,” by the Miami Herald,
the Jacob Jeffries Band have released a series of albums engineered
and produced by Grammy Award-winning producers Sebastian Krys and
Dan Warner and published by Warner Chappell. The latest album released
- Waiting for the Piano Movers – Fall 2009, is a
Live CD/DVD recorded at the renowned Full Sail University, one
of the premier media arts schools in the world. The band’s
debut recording - Life As An Extra – Spring 2008, was a more
intimate recording featuring Jacob’s
lyrics and voice. The second release – Wonderful – Fall
2008, bridged both albums as an electric studio recording featuring
the full band. Each album is evidence of the band’s progressively
richer and more complex sound, delivering heartfelt songs with
the energy and precision of well-seasoned musicians.
Jacob Jeffries, considers among his musical influences Ben Folds,
the Beatles, Tom Petty, Gavin Degraw and Jellyfish. When asked
about how the Beatles helped shape him as a musician and songwriter
he explains, “they took simple concepts,
simple musical and lyrical ideas, and made them so interesting to listen to and
dissect; they made me want to write songs that would get trapped in peoples heads.” Currently
the band consists of talented members Jimmy Powers Eric Jackowitz
and Joshua Diaz. They prepare to hit the road again, equipped with
an arsenal of new songs from their newsest album due out in May,
Tell Me Secrets, to unleash on a growing army of faithful fans.
This is the first
full length LP, so mixed with the excitement of writing all new
songs and getting to record it with all of their friends is a
dream come true for jacob and the band. "Choosing the songs for
the album was a process that is both exciting and stressful at
the same time. You have to ask yourself questions like, “do
I want to be playing this song for the next 8 months on the road?” or “Am
I going to get sick of this after a while?” So I chose
what I believe are the best new songs I’ve written and
can’t wait to share it. What’s music if you can’t
share it with anyone?"
The Jacob Jeffries Band was named 2008’s “Best Live Band & Best
New Release” by the Broward-Pam Beach and Miami New Times, and were selected
to perform in, and won the Florida Grammy Showcase- the Jacob Jeffries Band’s
hard work and dedication have begun to pay off and south Florida’s best
kept secret is getting out. As the New York Times affirmed of the south Florida
musician, “it’s going to take one little person like
Jacob to open doors to all those other Jacobs down there.”
The effect of the Internet
on music is obviously a much debated topic these days. The internet
has definitely changed the music business and the idea that any
song int he whole wide world, famous or not, can be located and
streamed on demand is an unbelievable feature in today's music
world. Governmental agencies cracking down on piracy is really
important and the more they can regulate the illegalities in
online music theft, then the more fair this business will be.
People who are talented (some not) are achieving a ridiculous
amount of fame through sites like youtube and twitter...so that's
cool I guess. But what about us music folk who have been journeying
for years, writing songs and playing shows all over the country...?

The business side needs to
embrace true artists and provide them with more showcase, festival,
live music opportunities. Executives need to venture and seek
what's buzzing out there and take a chance on artists that are
worth helping out. It really isn't about youtube hits or facebook
views, it's about the authenticity of the potential in the talent.
That's how Jacob feels about it. Check out Jacob's music today
and you are sure to become a fan.... I know I am one and can't
wait to hear more.
