South Florida Voice Studios
With the help
of her degree in Studio Music and Jazz from the University of Miami
and over eighteen years of vocal experience, Beth Cohen is able to teach
or coach any student at any level who is in need of training. Beth has
been teaching for over fifteen years both privately and in large classes.
Her private lessons can include everything from teaching style and technique,
to music theory. She has held open workshops for groups such as Warner/Chappell
Music. She also regularly coaches in-studio sessions, helping
to save a recording artist both time and the health of his or her voice.
She is able to help a vocalist at any
level, from beginner to advanced. Some of her students have included
successful recording artists such as Scott Stapp (Creed), Danny Wood
(“New Kids on the Block”), Desmond Child, (writer of “La
Vida Loca”), Alejandra Gusman, Jada Pinkett Smith and Lindsay Lohan. Beth
also spent three years as a faculty member at University of Miami. Beth
is patient and positive with her clients. Her hope is always to
make the student comfortable and create a healthy learning environment. The
goal is to help the student improve upon what they already have, so they
may go forward with their own personal musical goals.
In the studio, she is also in demand
for her vocal back grounds and vocal production abilities. This
is because she is not only a teacher but a full time vocalist as well.
She has recorded background vocals on albums with such artists as Barbara
Streisand, Pink, Alejandro Sanz and toured with various artists including
Chayanne, the Bee Gee's, Jon Secada, Julio Iglesias and Debbie Gibson.

As a student in college at Univ. of Miami Beth
began to teach some voice lessons on the side for extra cash. It turned out
she was good at explaining a lot of the technical aspects of things, and word
of mouth spread about her coaching. It
also helped a great deal that she was a working singer. It wasn’t
just “Do as I say”. Beth was actually using all the
methods she was teaching and people responded to that.

Sometimes
wearing two, (actually three) hats, Beth is coaching full time. But
she is also actively working as a singer. Right now she has two
shows coming up with Barry Gibb. She will be singing backgrounds as well
as a duet with him for the show. And she is always writing and
placing songs for other singers. A young Russian artist just used
three of her songs for her forthcoming EP.
Some of Beth's best experiences in the
business were probably early on when she was touring with Jon Secada
and doing the promotional circuit of T.V. shows such as Leno, Rosie
and Live with Regis. It was a real thrill, however she goes on
to say one of the worst experiences in the business was the first time
she took some of her songs into a publisher and they totally shot her
down. "I
left the office and cried in the elevator. I always knew there would
be rejection, but really feeling it for that first time was so painful."
Whether it be teaching or singing Beth
feels like she is so lucky to earn money doing something she loves so
much. "With singing it’s just the love of making music
come out of my mouth. With teaching, it’s the satisfaction
of seeing someone get better, and in turn get one step closer to their
dream." Sometimes she hates when people don’t understand the
value of the work." People try to offer less for my services. No
one would walk into the dentist and say, You charge $100? Well, I’ll
give ya $20.” It’s a constant battle. It would be great to
see the industry more focused on the quality of the music and not the
image." |
Beth wants to be able to help encourage young
singers to pursue their goals and believes that each
one that finds success changes the industry a little bit. But she does feel
that it’s
a double-edged sword. "The exposure for up and coming artists in
unsurpassed. But
at the same time people getting music for free has destroyed the value of
records. We’ll never get that back." Beth would
like to see more independence from record labels for sure. But believes there
will always be new music. "There will always be new
artists. They
will just be exposed to the masses in different ways. Maybe touring,
maybe internet, but what ever way it is we hope you get a chance to see and
hear this talented singer soon. You will surely be glad you did.
