Street Light Suzie

Red River Revival

Street Light Suzie is a toxic trio consisting of Wiley Ross on Guitar and Vocals, Ben Evans on the Bass and Chuy Trevino on the drums. Street light Suzie began when Wiley moved to Austin from Springfield Missouri and Ben from Denver Colorado. The first handful of bands Ben tried playing with were a bunch of tools, as was the case with Wiley. So out of frustration Ben put an add in the musician section of the Chronicle that read, "looking for other musicians to drink beer, smoke pot and Rock out..."

Wiley was one of the only few who responded. They immediately started practicing in Ben's shifty apt. and once they had a hand full of songs down they started looking for a drummer. They went through 24 try outs (most so excruciating we don't even wanna talk about it) until they found Drummer 1. But only after a small handful of shows he left the band. As was the case with drummers 2, drummer 3 and 4. But none the less they made progress playing rowdy show after rowdy show. They now have landed Chuy Trevino on the drums and play shows all the time all over the United States. So come out, get loaded and have blast! We're currently looking for a label who will put us on the road for ever and ever.

It's hard to convey the power of a live show through a CD, but Street Light Suzie pulls it off with seemingly no effort. Their debut album, “Red River Revival” is a raucous jaunt through everything that makes Rock-N-Roll fun. Vocalist Wiley Ross, bassist Ben Evans and drummer Chuy Trevino team up to make music that hooks the listener from the start. Bluesy and harsh, it’s almost as if they all camped out at the “crossroad” and drank Satan under the table. This band could have started the “sex, drugs and rock and roll” cliche, had they been born earlier. Ross’ voice is like an old razor blade: rusty but sharp, and very likely infectious.

From the opening track, “Long Live the Dead”, Street Light Suzie assaults the listener with thunderous melodies. It’s hard not to respect a band that pulls off songs with titles such as: “Cannibal Farm”, “Bag of Bones” and “Flirtin & Squirtin”, to name but a few. This is a great road trip CD… just put it in and drive. Better yet, crank it up at the river or beach, just to let the commercial radio listening public know that you are cooler than them. All in all, to paraphrase a well-worn song: “It’s only Rock-N-Roll, but you’ll like it!”

Austin TX

For Wiley, personally, he started skipping class to play guitar in college and realized all he wanted to do was play guitar. He had absolutely no idea what he wanted to do with has life. All he did know was that whatever he did it had to involve music or creating. so he dropped out, bought a van, and moved to Austin TX. Wiley chose Austin because it was closer than seattle or L.A. He had never been to any of the three.

As far as influences musically speaking he was obsessed with Kurt Cobain and the White Album. Before he moved to Austin he was working as a pizza delivery guy and his boss would turn him on to a lot of music he had never heard before like Ween and more obscure bands like that.

So he would have to give him credit with shaping Wiley's musical pallete. The song writing process usually consists of Wiley charging through it and then taking the "rough"song to the guys where all of them then get together on the arranging of it.

The recording process however is very different. Its much more planned out. Rob always lays down the drums and then the rest of the band can paint over it. As far as the latest tunes your guess is as good as anyone's because they haven't been written yet. The band would like to contribute an album that you could put on twenty years from now that sounded just as fresh and honest and relevant as the day it was recorded. The goal is to contribute a timeless album.
