Each month we will be featuring different drummers and styles of music, letting them speak their mind on all aspects of drumming, equipment, what they love about the drums, philosophies and their reflections on music from the drummers unique perspective.

This Month: Tony TaLmich

My name is Anthony Talmich I am a pro drummer with extensive experience in all types of music and here are some of my thoughts. I hail from Colorado and have been living in South Florida for twenty five years working with many top players and great shows.

So many things have changed throughout the years and not for the better due to the fact that nobody wants to pay for a real band of four or more pieces when now-a-days they can get any clown to spin records and play Scaryaoke for a few bucks.

No one seems to care except the real musicians that gig, if and when they get lucky enough to find a gig that will pay at least a $100 lousy bucks. Back in the 70s and 80s I was making real money working four to five nights a week and that was with a six piece group doing shows on the road.

Thank goodness that due to my connections I have stayed busy throughout the years with very little time off. Unfortunately not a lot of musicians can say that and it is such a shame.

I know some great musicians who have certainly paid their dues and are just sitting home or playing for free or what ever they can get. This new age sound has put many great players out of work. I am talking more at this point about Drummers and Bass players. I don't know what the future holds for live musicians who depend on working but what I have seen thus far is that the future does not look bright. It seems no matter where you go all see out there are DJs spinning records.

I guess I am old fashioned because when my niece attended a Pauly D concert with over a two thousand young kids there all going nuts and screaming I was thinking “Am I missing something here?” Here is some clown spinning records and shouting to the crowd and this guy is making a ton of cash doing what anyone can do?

I can’t figure it; I guess it’s just me, oh well. For the real musicians that are out there I have one more thing to say “Don’t give up! Don't ever give up; keep the music alive and kicking and live music will live on forever.

I for one am keeping the music alive; I am currently working on a Jersey Boys Tribute Show and doing well. Rock On!”

Tony is Pro Drummer and a motivational speaker for people who have lost their voice. When not doing shows he speaks at conferences through out the country and teaches speech pathologists how to use a device he currently uses to speak with. So between the both he stays very busy .Age is a matter of mind, if you don't mind it doesn't matter. Tony can be contacted at tonytdrummer@bellsouth.net
