The sitcom world provided
a way for Stand Up Comedians and sketch comics the ability
to achieve the status of a rock star and provide an after
career and that world has disappeared to the world of Reality
Television. It is really sad about what has been a lucrative
way for talented individuals to make a decent living and
achieve success by what is wrong today with television
today. To me watching Ralph Kramden say he was going to
send Alice to the moon from his conniving ways and being
called out on it was funny, very funny.
Watching a guy
punch Snooki in the face on reality TV is not funny. To
be on television at one time you had to possess talent
and have values. If you didn’t have values it was
swept under the rug to avoid controversy. I’m sorry
but I feel that something’s shouldn’t be broadcasted
such as a wedding to a talentless diva to a mediocre basketball
player that was paid for by sponsors. What are these reality
stars going to do when they are washed up? They’re
not going to be able to attend nightclubs and get paid
the thousands and thousands of dollar fees they charge
just to show up, are they going the be able to destroy
more of the after careers of people with talent?
The comedy/sketch world had always provided
options for comedians whether it is acting, writing, directing,
producing, casting, consulting, or developing. These days
are numbered according to the lineup on television these
days…and it is sad.
